Notifications
Settings → Notifications is where you choose what the Swann Retail app tells you about. These switches control which push notifications the Swann Retail app sends you and which entries it adds to your notifications inbox. Each kind of notification has its own switch, so you can keep the ones you want and turn off the rest.
These switches belong to your account, not to the device you’re using. Change one here and it applies on every phone or tablet you’re signed in to the app on. This website never shows push notifications itself — it’s just another place to set them. They’re the same switches you’ll find under Settings → Notifications in the app.
Anyone who signs in can change their own notifications — you don’t need a particular permission, and your choices never affect anyone else’s.
The notifications
Section titled “The notifications”| Switch | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| New sales | A sale was completed on one of your store’s registers. |
| Delivery assignments | A delivery was assigned to you, so you hear about the job rather than having to spot it. |
| New quotes | Someone in your store quoted a customer, so the rest of the team hears about the offer. |
| Accepted quotes | A customer accepted one of your store’s quotes, so the team can get on with the job. |
| New online orders | A customer placed an order on your online store, so someone can get it ready. |
| Online order auto-canceled | An online order that was never collected was canceled automatically. |
| Missed dispatch | An online delivery order is overdue and still has no driver. The order stays open. |
Online order auto-canceled and Missed dispatch never send a push. They only add an entry to your notifications inbox, and their switch decides whether that entry is added for you.
You won’t be pushed about your own work — ring up a sale or write a quote and you won’t be told about it, and the register you rang the sale on won’t buzz either.
Turn a notification on or off
Section titled “Turn a notification on or off”- Go to Settings → Notifications.
- Find the notification under Which notifications you get.
- Flip its switch. The change saves straight away — there’s no Save button.
What’s on to begin with
Section titled “What’s on to begin with”Until you change a switch, each notification follows a default that depends on your role:
| Switch | The store owner | Everyone else |
|---|---|---|
| New sales | On | Off |
| Delivery assignments | On | On |
| New quotes | On | Off |
| Accepted quotes | On | On |
| New online orders | On | Off |
| Online order auto-canceled | On | Off |
| Missed dispatch | On | Off |
Until you change New online orders yourself, it follows your New sales switch — so if you’d already turned New sales on or off, online orders start the same way.
A register tablet — the shared counter tablet signed in with the Register Device role — starts with Accepted quotes turned off, because a ping on a shared tablet in front of customers reaches nobody in particular. Everything else on a register tablet follows the Everyone else column. If your team does want accepted quotes on the counter, switch it on for that account like any other.
Nobody is ever sent a push they’ve switched off, whatever the default — and nothing is added to your notifications inbox for a switch you’ve turned off.
Use the default
Section titled “Use the default”Once you’ve changed a switch, a Use the default link appears under it. Press it to drop your own choice and go back to following the default for your role. From then on, if your role changes, the switch follows the new role’s default too — which it wouldn’t if you’d simply flipped it back by hand.
Use the default only appears when you’ve changed that switch, and only when your role’s default is known (see below).
If something looks wrong
Section titled “If something looks wrong”- “We couldn’t work out your role in this store” — we couldn’t tell whether you’re the owner, so we can’t tell you what your defaults are and Use the default isn’t offered. Any switch you’ve set yourself still applies. Ask the store owner to check the role on your account (see Roles & permissions).
- “We can’t tell whether this one is on” — a notification you’ve never changed, with no default we can work out, shows this message instead of a switch. Ask for your account’s role to be checked, then come back.
- “Couldn’t load your notification settings” — check your connection and press Retry.
- Not getting pushes you’ve switched on? The switches decide which notifications you’re sent. Your phone or tablet also has to allow notifications from the Swann Retail app, in the device’s own settings.
- “Notifications are paused on this device” — the app on that phone or tablet needs to be paired with your store again before notifications can reach it. See Notifications paused on this device.
