Notifications paused on this device
Sometimes Settings → Notifications in the Swann Retail app shows “Notifications are paused on this device”. It means Swann Retail has stopped sending push notifications to that one phone or tablet until it’s paired with your store again. Your notification switches are untouched, and every other device you’re signed in on carries on as normal.
Why it happens
Section titled “Why it happens”Each device that gets notifications holds its own private link to your store. If that link is lost or no longer matches — for example, the app’s stored data was cleared, or the device was restored from a backup of another device — Swann Retail refuses to send to it rather than risk sending your store’s notifications to the wrong device.
Trying again doesn’t help: the device would present the same link and be refused again. Pairing it is the way back.
What you’ll see
Section titled “What you’ll see”On the device, go to Settings → Notifications. Under the notification switches you’ll see:
- Notifications are paused on this device, with a Pair this device button — if your role includes the Manage settings permission.
- Notifications are paused on this device and Ask the store owner to pair it — if it doesn’t. Pairing a device needs Manage settings (see Roles & permissions), so ask someone who has it.
Pair this device
Section titled “Pair this device”You’ll need a pairing code from Swann Retail. If you don’t have one, contact support.
- On the paused device, go to Settings → Notifications and press Pair this device.
- The Device pairing screen opens. Scan the pairing code with the camera, or type it into Or enter the code.
- Once the device is paired, the app takes you back to Settings → Notifications, which now says Set up on this device. Notifications reach this device again from that point.
If the app says “That code is invalid or expired”, ask Swann Retail for a new code — a pairing code can only be used once. Until pairing works, Settings → Notifications stays paused and keeps its Pair this device button, so you can try again whenever you have a new code.
