Discounts
A discount takes money off a sale — either a percentage (e.g. 10% off) or a fixed amount (e.g. $5 off). You can apply one on the spot at the register, or save the ones you use often as presets so they’re a tap away.
Save your discount presets
Section titled “Save your discount presets”Go to Settings → Discounts to keep a list of reusable discounts. Press New discount and fill in:
- Name — what it’s for, e.g. Staff discount.
- Type — Percent or Amount.
- Value — a percentage from 0 to 100, or a dollar amount.
Use Edit or Delete on any preset later. Deleting a preset only removes it from the list — sales that already used it keep their discount, because the amount is stored on the order.
That’s all a preset holds: a name, a type, and a value. There are no minimum spends, expiry dates, customer targeting, or usage limits.
Apply a discount during a sale
Section titled “Apply a discount during a sale”While you’re building the cart (Ring up a sale), you can discount the whole sale or one line:
- Whole sale — in the order’s discount area, pick a saved preset from Apply a preset…, or press + Custom discount to enter a one-off percent or amount.
- One line — press + Add discount on that cart line and enter a one-off percent or amount.
Saved presets are picked at the whole-sale level; line discounts are always entered by hand. Either way the applied discount shows as a removable summary (e.g. −$5.00) with an ✕ to clear it.
A discount can never take off more than the thing it applies to — Swann Retail caps a fixed amount at the line or sale subtotal, so you can’t discount below zero.
How discounts affect your totals
Section titled “How discounts affect your totals”- The total drops by the discount, and VAT is worked out on the discounted price — so a discount lowers the tax too.
- A line discount comes off that line first; a whole-sale discount then comes off the remaining subtotal.
- In your reports, net sales is your sales after discounts (see Reports).
Who can use discounts
Section titled “Who can use discounts”Applying a discount at the register needs the Apply discount permission (cashiers and up). Creating, editing, or deleting the presets needs the Manage settings permission.
