Item modifiers

A modifier is a choice a guest makes about an item — a size, a temperature, a topping. You define each set of choices once as a modifier group, then attach it to as many items as you like, so the same “Temperature” or “Add-ons” set drives every drink or plate that needs it.

Modifiers are part of the Restaurant add-on. If you don’t see Modifiers in your Catalog menu, they aren’t on your plan — see The Restaurant add-on.

Open Modifiers from the Catalog menu and press New modifier:

  • Name — what the choice is called (e.g. Temperature, Milk, Toppings).
  • TypeSingle choice (the guest picks exactly one) or Multiple choice (the guest can pick several).
  • SelectionRequired (the guest must choose) or Optional. For a multiple-choice group you can also set a minimum and maximum number of picks.

Then add the options the group offers. Each option has:

  • A name (e.g. Large, Oat milk, Extra cheese).
  • A price change — a signed amount that adjusts the line price. Enter +2.00 to add, -0.50 to take off, or leave it blank for no change. So a free choice like “No onion” is just a $0 option.

A group needs at least one option. Saving a group replaces all of its options at once, so editing is a quick full rewrite rather than a line-by-line change.

Modifier groups are attached per item. On the item’s edit page, tick the groups that item should offer; the order you attach them is the order the cashier sees them at the register. A group that’s still attached to an item can’t be deleted — detach it from those items first.

When a cashier rings an item that has modifier groups, a picker opens with each group and its rule (“Choose one”, “Choose 1–3”, “required”). Single-choice groups show as a radio list, multiple-choice as checkboxes. Required groups and any minimum must be satisfied before the line can be added.

Each option shows its price change (e.g. +$2.00, −$0.50), and the picker keeps a running item total as choices are made. The chosen options and their price changes are saved onto the sale and printed on the receipt exactly as they were rung — so renaming or deleting a group later never rewrites a past sale.
