Redeem loyalty points

Points a customer has earned spend as store credit off a sale — 1 point comes off as 1¢. You redeem them at the register while you build the cart, and they come off as a discount on the total. First your loyalty program needs to be on — see Loyalty.

Three things have to be true for the redeem controls to show up:

  • Your loyalty program is on (Settings → Loyalty).
  • A customer is attached to the sale — points belong to a customer, so the register needs to know whose to spend. See Add & find a customer.
  • The sale doesn’t already have a whole-sale discount — you can use loyalty points or a whole-sale discount, not both (a single-line discount is fine alongside points).

Once a customer is attached, a Loyalty section appears in the cart, with their balance shown as 250 pts available. To spend some:

  • Type a number of points in Redeem points. A point is worth 1¢, so 250 points takes $2.50 off.
  • Or press Max to redeem as many points as the sale allows — the most of the customer’s balance that fits this sale.
  • A line under the box confirms what you’re spending — Redeeming 250 pts (−$2.50).
  • Changed your mind? Press the to clear the redemption.

You can never redeem more than the customer has, or more than the sale is worth: the register caps the points at the smaller of the balance and the sale subtotal, so a redemption can’t take the sale below zero.

If you’ve set a Minimum points to redeem (Settings → Loyalty), a customer has to reach that balance before they can spend any — it lets them build points up first. Below the minimum, the points can’t be redeemed yet. Leave the minimum blank for no floor.

If a customer has nothing to spend on this sale, the Loyalty section reads No points available to redeem on this sale.

A redemption comes off as a Discount — it isn’t a separate “points” line. The cart’s Discount row drops by the amount redeemed, and VAT is worked out on the discounted total, so redeeming lowers the tax too, exactly like any other discount. The printed or emailed receipt shows the same Discount.

The points are drawn down from the customer’s balance when the sale completes; the sales you take afterwards build it back up (see Loyalty).
